Excell250-600 Channel Protection Project in Korea

Project information:

Time: Oct.2024.

The slope angle degree: 1:1, around 45°.

Address: Gyeongju, Korea.

Function: Use our Geocell for channel protection to provide stability and protection of channels exposed to erosive conditions ranging from low to high flows.

Used Geocell type: our Excell Geocell 250-600, detailed specifications: height 250mm, welding 600mm, textured and perforated type, thickness 1.65mm, seam peel strength 15KN/m.

Total quantity: 45.650m2/3×40’HQ.

1, Install Geotextile

Install a geotextile separation layer and maintain minimum(15cm)overlaps. Ensure geotextile is placed in perimeter toe-in trenches. Anchor the edges of the geotextile separation layer to prevent movement.

2, Connect Geocell panels with Connection keys

Align and interleaf edges of adjoining Geocell panels, ensuring that the upper surfaces of adjoining panels are flush.

Fasten Geocell panels together with the connection key. Position the key through the slots of overlapping panels (side-to-side), or where cells connect (end-to-end), and turn key to “lock” position.

When Geocell panels are connected end-to-end, under-expand a few rows of the adjoining panel to allow easy placement of the keys before fully expanding the connecting panel.

3, Anchorage of Geocell Panels

Drive a row of anchor stakes along the upper edge of the proposed channel protection area. Space the anchors at pre-determined single-cell centers.

Partially expand the Geocell panel and place the end cell of the panel over its corresponding edge anchor. Ensure the Anchor stake Clip arm is placed over the cell wall.

4, Expand Geocell Panels Down The Slope

Geocell panels should be stretched past the designed length then allowed to settle back to the designed length.

If the total length to be covered is less than one single standard panel Length, you may cut off the extra cells or simply keep the additional cells collapsed.

5, Placement of Infill

When the Geocell has been properly laid in place, the system should be filled using the materials specified in the job specifications. As like below photos, this customer use gravel to fill the bottom of the slope, which is the conventional water flow area.

6, Fill the soil to the middle and the top of the slope, to graass on the surface.

7, Compaction

When using sand, granular or topsoil fills, overfill the Geocell sections by 25mm to 50mm to allow for settling and compaction.

Sand and granular fills should be blade compacted to the top of the cells. Topsoil fills should be compacted with the loader or backhoe bucket or with a tamper plate.

8, Installing coir blanket, which is more conducive to the growth of grass seeds.

9, Hydroseeding on the both sides of the slope surface.
