Geocell Slope Protection Installation Guidelines

We export large quantities of our HDPE Geocell to South-east Asian countries, as Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Most of them use our Geocell for slope protection or erosion control projects.

In March, one of our customers in Thailand bought our Geocell HF100-445 for one of their slope protection projects, a total quantity of 365.00m2. And they finished the installation in April and they shared some construction photos with me.

I checked carefully of their construction photos and found several obvious problems during their construction process. And I found not only for this customer, some of the customers also make the same mistakes in the slope protection installation process. So I’d like to tell you all of them with words and photos here, let’s check what the mistakes are and how to prevent them together.

Geocell Slope Protection

1, When infilling the Geocell on a slope, whether the infill material is soil or aggregate, you should put 5cm higher to make sure all the cells are infilled completely.

After infilling, the Geocell panels will not exposed outside, they should buried under the infill material.

2, During the construction process, Geocells that have not been filled can’t be pressed with heavy objects(like the heavy stones in this construction photo), as this will damage the Geocell material, and break the welding point.

3, When installing Geocells on the top of the slope, the Geocells should be expanded fully and fixed with Anchor or J-pin.

After infilling, the Geocell panels will not exposed outside, they should buried under the infill material.

Through your construction photos, seems the area at the top of the slope was not installed correctly.

4, The Geocells at the bottom of the slope should be fully expanded and fixed with the anchor or J-pin. After fixing all the Geocells properly, then fill and compact them.

Through your photo, we can see at the bottom of the slope some Cells have not been expanded and fully cover the slope, also not use J-pins to fix them.
